Celtic have been given a boost ahead of their Champions League clash against Bayern Munich at Celtic Park on Tuesday.

But this is only because Bayern are so confident they can beat Celtic without him.

"The coach does not want to risk anything as Saturday's game, which is very important for us, is in the back of his mind".

He said: "Someone showed me something on that".

"When we met for the first time at Sabener Strasse [Bayern's training facility], we had a special relationship - confidential, close, sincere, and Heynckes was responsible for why I was so good in 2013. All we can do is control what we can".

But the striker was not part of the travelling party who left Germany on Monday morning, with the club confirming: "Kingsley Coman is on board as Bayern begin their journey to Glasgow, but Lewandowski stays behind".

Considering Bayern are already missing Thomas Muller and Franck Ribery to injury, their stance on Lewandowski could backfire.

Sport Bild quoted Lewandowski as saying at the weekend: "This season, it's really hard for me - I have played for Bayern and the national team every three days from the beginning".

"Lewandowski is one of the world's best strikers with his movement, his speed and the quality, and he has been consistently doing that for few years".

A loss to Celtic would leave them in a scrap for second place with two games remaining.

"They are a talented team, they have been put together to win this competition so we know the magnitude of the test but it is one that we will relish".
