Towards the end of last season, Mourinho urged Martial to "give me things that I like" if he wanted to figure for the first team more often.

Following the game, Mourinho explained in his post-match interview, via Metro, the instructions he gave Martial before sending him on and also revealed how the France worldwide is more comfortable in one aspect of his game than Rashford is, giving him a slight advantage over the 19-year-old.

Anthony Martial claimed Manchester United's Man of the Match award on Twitter after he came off the bench to score the vital victor in the tense 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford.

The boss also had kind words for Benfica's Mile Svilar who, at 18 years old, became the youngest goalkeeper in Champions League history two weeks ago but made a awful error by carrying Marcus Rashford's free-kick into his own net to hand United the 1-0 victory in Portugal. The lone goal of the contest came thanks to Anthony Martial. As such, the attacking line featured Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Romelu Lukaku, and Marcus Rashford.

Martial was brought on in the 70th minute of yesterday's match against Tottenham but made the most of his cameo as he scored the only goal of the game. Following an impressive aerial assist from Lukaku, Martial got into a good position and coolly placed the ball into the back of the net past Hugo Lloris. Apparently he has cemented a super-sub role this season, similar to what players such as Javier Hernandez and Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer did in the past. "He is happy and whenever he has a chance he takes it as we saw today".

"We have so many matches and if we can qualify tomorrow, it would be better", Jose told MUTV. And that's a tendency with Martial.

Neville feels his old club deserve credit for their strength of character and admits it was a vital victory in their quest to haul in leaders Manchester City, who remain five points clear at the top. It was a struggle of a game but it was one they needed to win. And that's exactly what happened, as the team proved they can win while using different tactical systems.

As we have seen all season long, the French once again delivered.
