Armour moves clear as weather halts play in Mississippi

Ryan Armour notched four successive birdies on his way to a second-round 68 and a one-shot lead at the Sanderson Farms Championship in MS on Friday.

Armour had only ever won once on the Web.com Tour - at the Panama Claro Championship in January last year - but the 41-year-old American celebrated a breakthrough PGA triumph in Jackson, Mississippi.

"There were some lean times", the journeyman said of a up-and-down career that has had him on and off the PGA Tour. His career has been one of living on the perpetual fringe of earning a PGA Tour card, having also battled to earn even his Web.com Tour card before his win in 2016. "Thank god. I love her".

He carded a four-under-par 68 - his fourth successive round below 70 - to reign supreme in his 105th start with an aggregate score of 19 under, finishing well clear of nearest challenger Chesson Hadley.

Tyrone Van Aswegen overcame a double-bogey and a bogey by reeling off 10 birdies, including two chip-ins, for a day's best seven-under 65 to trail Armour by a stroke. "If you believe in something go do it, work hard at it and have fun doing it". "Hit fairways, hit greens, make putts".

Three birdies in his first seven holes pushed Armour to three-under for the day before the bogey at the ninth hole.

The next PGA Tour event comes next weekend when the scene shifts to Las Vegas for the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.
