Educational facilities hosting Veterans Day Assemblies

The Hiawatha FFA will host a Veterans Day Assembly at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, at Hiawatha High School.

Students at North Schuylkill Junior/Senior High School always look forward to Veterans Day because it gives them a chance to say thank you to the veterans in our area. All veterans are invited to come in uniform or attire representing their service branch if possible. The choir will present the Cantata "In God We Trust" and veterans will be recognized. Interim superintendent Jay McCracken will open the ceremony before handing the microphone over to guest speaker Commander Michael S. Trench, U.S. Navy.

Long Drain School will hold its annual Veterans Day program in the Long Drain School gymnasium on November 9, 1 p.m. Free to Veterans families.

The Wetzel County Farm Bureau is planning its third annual dinner for veterans, to be held November 18, 2:30 the Sportsman's Club. Students would like to invite the public to join them at 1 honor these men and women. Several local organizations are hosting veteran appreciation events on or near Veterans Day.

Music will be provided by the Mendota High School band and alumni.

American Legion Auxiliary Unit #81 Pine Grove is hosting a ham, soup beans, and cornbread lunch on November 11 at the Byrd Center in Pine Grove. A few short speeches on each branch will be given and students will hear about the importance of Veterans Day.

A student-led salute to veterans program will follow the breakfast. Immediately following the lunch was an assembly where the school chorus sang the national anthem and Taps was played. A sunrise, flag-raising ceremony by the Williams Memorial Chapel.

During the program, Dando and all the other veterans had the opportunity to introduce themselves to the students while a military picture of them was displayed behind them.
