Mark Millar Reveals First New Comic Series Under Netflix

The first project from Mark Millar and Netflix has been announced: a new comic book called The Magic Order. Following the streamer's recent acquisition of Mark Millar's company, which included a commitment to create original films, series and kids shows based on existing Millarworld franchises and new properties, the comic book author is releasing the new six-issue series this spring.

"We wanted to make a splash with our first book for Netflix and this is it".

"I've been writing comics since I was 19, so this is unbelievable for me because it's what I love doing", Millar told EW. Now it's putting the comics before the TV and movie projects, but perhaps it wants to build a groundswell of interest from fans of the books and then translate that to better streaming media success. So my idea with The Magic Order was to take something that's essentially about a secret order of good wizards who got rid of all the bad things hundreds of years ago, but live quietly among us now with blue-collar jobs and ordinary domestic lives.

"It's all about accessibility, and the big idea here is that these are the guys who keep the world as rational and normal as it feels to us now".

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Millar revealed the first new comics title under the deal: "The Magic Order".

"We live in a world where we've never seen a monster and these people are the reason we sleep safely in our beds". Here, five families of magicians are sworn to protect an embattled world from an enemy that's picking them off.

Described as "more like The Sopranos than Lord of the Rings", comicbook readers can expect a lot of great modern fantasy when they read The Magic Order.

The book will be R-rated adult fantasy. "I've been after him for nearly ten years so to finally have our names in the same book is an absolute honor". It's actually a pretty ideal arrangement.
