Undertrial shot dead in Rohini court complex

A man facing trial in a cheating case was shot dead in a court complex here on Monday, police said.

Vinod, 31, was shot dead while police was taking him back to the Tihar Central Jail.

The gunman has been arrested at the Rohini court complex in northwest Delhi.The victim, so far identified by only his first name, Vinod, was killed while he was leaving the court after a hearing.

According to the news reports where the event occurred in the passageway near the canteen block when the undertrial was doing carried back from the court, while the police responded.

Nevertheless, this is not the 1st chance a man has started the fire inside Rohini Court.

Area Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) was quoted by LiveLaw as saying, "Victim, Vinod alias Balle, was produced by the staff of Third Battalion at Rohini Court". Vinod was rushed to Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital where he was declared brought dead. He had no other criminal involvement apart from this case where he had forged someones signature on a cheque, the police said.

S N Sharma, former secretary of Rohini Court Bar Assocition, who was present in the corridor where Vinod was shot, said, "He was shot at point blank range".

He said police were also looking into security lapses in the incident.

This is the second such incident near the court complex. Earlier in the same court a 38-year-old was shot dead in April this year. The prisoner, who was shot in this case, was arrested in December 2016 from Agra, for a murder.
