Arctic Air to Bring 60mph Winds and Snow Later in the Week

Forecast high temperatures Monday

An arctic air flow is being blamed for the falling temperatures - bringing a cocktail of wintry showers, rain and gale-force winds.

In case you think we're making this up or anything, Met Eireann - the actual, official weather forecasting agency for Ireland - are calling it for snow later this week.

The first snow flurries hit across the North and even in London last week, and there will be plenty more to come.

The likelihood of snow will increase in the evening and night as temperatures fall to between -2C and 1C.

Sky's weather forecaster Isobel Lang said: "This is a really interesting week of weather with some dramatic changes from Wednesday onwards".

A milder period of weather over the weekend is likely to continue until the middle of the week according to the forecaster. Top temperatures will range from 8C to 11C, with light south-westerly breezes.

The latest forecast is the most recent indication that the United Kingdom is set for its coldest December for seven years, breaking a cycle of unusually milder weather for the time of year.

Thursday is the day we can expect the white stuff to arrive.

The Met Office said that tonight will be a mostly dry, cloudy night, with wind and sometimes heavy rain arriving in the north and Scotland on Tuesday.

However, Met Éireann predicts that an Arctic chill will plunge temperatures to a freezing low from Thursday morning.

Meanwhile, Britain is braced for its coldest December in seven years, with freezing conditions set to bring snow and winds gusting up to almost 100kph to certain parts this week.
