Qatar Amir likely to attend GCC annual summit in Kuwait

Foreign Ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) attend a meeting in Bayan Palace, in Kuwait City, Kuwait, December 4, 2017.

During his attendance of the UAE's 46th National Day celebrations at the country's embassy in Kuwait, he said: "Kuwait will welcome GCC leaders on Tuesday and Wednesday".

Kuwait's Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah received First Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Khalid al-Sabah and GCC Secretary-General Abdul Latif al-Zayani, who gave the Emir details about the summit preparations.

He added that Qatar had not yet seen the summit agenda, but the current crisis would be discussed at the meeting.

The Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said on Sunday that Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani will be participating at the summit.

"I will attend the ministerial council tomorrow and the emir will attend the summit", news agencies quoted Sheikh Mohammed as saying at a forum in Qatar's capital, Doha.

On June 5, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain chose to cut all diplomatic ties with Qatar, hurling allegations that the state destabilizes the region by supporting terrorism and allying with the regional foe Iran.

Established in 1954, the GCC is a bloc of six Gulf countries: Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait and Oman.

The Arab Centre for Research and Policy Studies announced a panel discussion entitled "gulf crisis, regional and worldwide dynamics and the role of media, " Qatar local media reported Sunday.
