Pennsylvania Doctor Blame in Dead of 5 Patients From Opioid Overdoses

According to The Daily Item, the Northumberland County doctor was released Friday on $500,000 unsecured bail.

Kraynak appeared before Chief Magistrate Judge Susan E. Schwab in Ronald Reagan Federal Bldg. From January 2016 through July 2017, Dr. Kraynak prescribed 2.7 million units of oxycodone, hydrocodone, OxyContin and fentanyl at these facilities, making him the state's most prolific prescriber of these drugs over the course of that 19-month period.

The U.S. lawyer's office in Harrisburg on Thursday reported the charges of medication conveyance bringing about death against 60-year-old Dr. Raymond Kraynak of Mount Carmel. He was arrested by DEA agents.

Federal agents believe Kraynak's improper dispensing of pills resulted in the deaths of five of his patients. The five patients died between 2013 and 2015 after taking drugs Kraynak prescribed to them.

FOX43's sister station, WNEP, reports one man told them Kraynak was known around the area as "the candy man", and one pharmacy in the area would refuse to fill prescriptions issued by Kraynak because he prescribed so many opioids.

But other people, who did not want to go on camera disagreed.

To those patients, the United States Attorney's response is, find a doctor who properly cares for you.
