Coinbase: No coins being added

Ripple's seemingly unstoppable bull run took a hit Thursday after USA exchange Coinbase dispelled rumors it would add the asset.

Coinbase, one of the largest crypto exchanges, said in a Twitter post by its chief executive officer that it had not made a decision to add new coins. The company was tipped to add many cryptocurrencies to its platform. Yet, the rumors are attracting many investors, but events like Coinbase denouncing Ripple rumors are situations governments, exchanges, and financial institutes all warn about.

Coinbase now allows the buying, selling, deposit and withdrawal of Bitcoin, Litecoin, Bitcoin Cash and Ethereum. "Any statement to the contrary is untrue and not authorized by the company". It said that a committee of internal experts determines the new assets that are added to the platform in accordance with the framework.

A few months ago we released our Digital Asset Framework which highlights our criteria for supporting new assets.

Even after the dip, Ripple still maintained its market cap as the second highest cryptocurrency after prices began to recover. "Coinbase will announce the addition of new assets only via our blog post or other official channels". The veiled nod to those rumors is no doubt a prudent step as Coinbase is continuing to face major criticism and scrutiny after it emerged staff leaked information about Bitcoin Cash (BCH) being added to its books. The coin has spent most of today's trading defending the $3 level.
