Specifically, TiVo is looking to make heavy use of IFTTT functionality once support for Alexa and Google Assistant are live.

At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas this week it's announcing new device partnerships.

Search engine giant Google is betting on its Assistant app to dominate the burgeoning fields of smart home automation and virtual assistants. Google Assistant announced third-party actions nearly a year back and there are lots of things you are missing.

Since there are so many things you can do with the Assistant, sometimes it can be a bit hard to keep track of them. Google's Assistant can be summoned on Android smartphones, and Siri lives on Apple's iPhones.

But, Moorhead countered, Microsoft is likely playing to its strength by angling to be the dominant digital assistant in workplaces and Cortana is already on some half a billion computers powered by Windows 10 software. At the same time, Amazon offered a set of tools created to help other companies build Alexa into their own devices.

With this announcement, Google has effectively jumped on a big new trend and perhaps outmaneuvered Amazon. Amazon made it a lot easier with Alexa, allowing you to look for all its abilities on their official website.

The company doesn't disclose sales of Echo devices beyond a year-end news release touting the sales of "tens of millions" of Alexa-enabled devices during the holiday season. Even Amazon, whose Alexa platform dominated CES in 2017, didn't have a physical presence at the show - numerous Alexa-related announcements came from partners like Whirlpool, GE, and Dish, which shared details on how the virtual helper is being integrated into their products.

With smart-home functions, the assistants can even turn on a coffee maker, work smart light bulbs, adjust thermostats, work door locks and activate outlets.

TiVo sees the smart home revolution and it wants to be a part of it. You'll also be able to implement your own IFTTT applets, giving you further control over the automatic actions your TiVo performs when certain requirements are met.
