President Winfrey? No way, says Trump: "I'll beat Oprah"

Gayle King says her long time friend and famous talk show host Oprah Winfrey, is not"actively considering 2020 presidential run

President Donald Trump said Tuesday he would beat Oprah Winfrey in any prospective 2020 presidential faceoff - and that such a race would "be a lot of fun". "I also know after years of watching the Oprah show, you always have a right to change your mind".

"Yeah, I'll beat Oprah", Mr Trump told reporters during a meeting to discuss immigration reform with USA senators.

She used the show's success to build a media empire encompassing movie production, magazines, cable TV, and satellite radio, becoming one of the world's richest women.

"No, I like Oprah, I don't think she's gonna run". I don't think she's going to run.

Gayle King, who is close friends with Winfrey, said on "CBS This Morning" earlier Tuesday that Winfrey finds the idea "intriguing" but added that she doesn't believe Winfrey is actually considering it right now.

Winfrey has raised millions of dollars for various causes, including shelters for battered women but, like Trump when he launched his White House campaign, she has no prior experience in government. "She wanted that moment to be more than women wearing black dresses of solidarity".

"I don't think at this point she is considering it", King said, "but listen, there are people who have said they want to be her campaign manager, who want to quit their jobs and campaign for her". She then added, "I was up talking to her late last night".

"Given the choice between Oprah and our current president, I'm on the bus with Oprah traveling the country encouraging people to sign up and vote", he said.

Former Trump White House press secretary Sean Spicer, who was the public face of some of the Trump administration's early missteps a year ago, said on the Good Morning Britain show that Oprah lacked "political infrastructure" and would have a hard time adjusting to the White House.

Asked about all the presidential speculation suddenly swirling around Winfrey, the typically pugilistic Trump steered clear of nasty nicknames and colorful insults while sizing up such a potential celebrity showdown. Stedman would never so cavalierly say absolutely she would do it.

Mr Trump has been accused by multiple women of sexual harassment and assault, all of which he has denied.

Trump has expressed his admiration for Winfrey in the past.

Winfrey, who spent the bulk of her career as a talk show host, proclaimed, 'a new day is on the horizon'.

Some political operatives think she has what it takes to be a viable presidential contender.
