Uttar Pradesh Shia waqf board chief — Madrasas generate terrorists

Claiming that madrasas were producing "more terrorists than civil servants", Shia Central Waqf Board chairman Wasim Rizvi on Tuesday appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to abolish madrasa boards across the country and re-categorise them as "schools" with a common, secular education policy.

The Board suggested that all madarasa boards should be dissolved.

Claiming that a large number of madrasas are not registered, lack basic facilities and have mostly untrained teachers, Rizvi wrote that such an education can not be utilised to crack competitive examinations.

Shia Board has already sent its report on madrasa education to the prime minister. "Kuch aatankwadi sangathan bhi aise apanjikrit madarson ko paise se madad kar rahe hain (Some terror outfits are also helping such non-registered madrasas with funds)", he added.

Rizvi's comments also came days after the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh ordered reduction in number of Holidaysby madrasas from 92 to 86 while also ordering madarsas to be shut on Hindu festivals, reported by News18.

He said that these institutions should be converted into convent schools which offer an optional subject of Islamic education.

Rizvi said the madrasas should be affiliated to CBSE, ICSE, and should allow non-Muslim students. It has demanded the linking of these madrasas with CBSE and ICSE syllabi.

Mr. Rizvi further said children from other communities were scared to enrol in madrasas due to their focus on religion-oriented education and irrational practices.

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (UP) convener Syed Waqar Ahmed called Rizvi a "buffoon" and an opportunist. He has sold his soul to RSS.

He also challenged Rizvi to to show one madrasa where such teachings are imparted. "At the most, they get jobs of Urdu translators or typists", he said.

After as many as 51 girls were rescued on December 30 in a raid on a madarasa in Uttar Pradesh, the Shia Waqf Board had said that all madarasas being run on Waqf properties will be closed down.
