Marvel's Potential BLACK WIDOW Film Finds A Writer

Schaeffer gained notoriety through the Black List screenwriting contest and was selected by Feige after he met with Johansson, who told him what she wanted out of a Black Widow movie.

Before you start celebrating, you should know that this project is still in the very early stages and hasn't yet been greenlit, so who knows what could happen, but with close to two dozen MCU films in Marvel's future, you've got to believe that one of them will be the long-awaited BLACK WIDOW film. This has been a long time coming, and we hope that this project makes it through the process over at Marvel Studios. Securing a writer is a seriously promising step regardless, since it's the most that Marvel has ever done in terms of pushing a solo film forward. Also, Marvel Studios is well-known for their eye for new talent. No, that's not exactly the tone anyone would want in a Black Widow film, but she's also written the sci-fi movie TiMER starring Emma Caulfield and "The Shower", a short about an alien invasion at a baby shower starring Anne Hathaway. Despite the popularity of the character and her importance to a number of MCU films, Marvel seemed reluctant to create a solo film starring the character. "We've announced the next nine movies... through to the end of 2019". Where we go beyond that are ongoing discussions that we'll focus on in the next few years because we have a lot to do before then... "I would say certainly the one creatively and emotionally that we are most committ [ed] to doing is Black Widow", said Feige. The character has proven herself time and again in the MCU; as a character with no superpowers she certainly isn't out of her depth in the Battle of NY or the Ultron Uprising.

Scarlett Johansson is set to reprise the role of Natasha Romanov, a.k.a. "She's a lead Avenger and has incredible stories in her own right to tell that we think would be fun to turn into a standalone franchise".
