Donald Trump set to be interviewed under oath over Russia-US claims

Trump confirmed that his lawyers were in discussion with Mueller

Special counsel Robert Mueller has provided lawyers for President Donald Trump with a range of topics he wants to ask about as part of ongoing negotiations regarding an interview with the President, sources familiar with the matter tell CNN.

"I would love to do that as soon as possible", said Mr Trump.

Mr Mueller's investigation so far has led to two Trump associates, former national security adviser Michael Flynn and campaign aide George Papadopoulos, pleading guilty to lying to FBI agents.

The interview with Sessions last week makes him the highest-ranking Trump administration official, and first Cabinet member, known to have submitted to questioning.

Former FBI director James Comey was also interviewed by Mueller's team about Russian meddling in the 2016 election past year.

"I couldn't have cared less about Russians having to do with my campaign".

One reporter asked if there was a date set for the interview, and Trump said he did not know but expected it to be in the next two or three weeks.

Mueller's team is reportedly preparing to interview Trump's ex-chief strategist Stephen Bannon in the next week.

Sessions also was questioned about whether President Donald Trump obstructed justice since taking office, Justice Department spokeswoman Sarah Isgur Flores told The New York Times. She reiterated that the White House would be cooperative with Mueller.

The firing led to Mr. Mueller's appointment to take over the FBI's Russian Federation investigation.

He has sought to get back in Mr Trump's good graces by pursuing investigations into issues such as leaks to the news media, and relaying Mr Trump's displeasure about senior FBI leadership to the bureau's current director Christopher Wray.

When Comey testified before Congress last June, he said that he had a friend of his who worked at Columbia Law School give the contents of his memo to a reporter.

At times, the attorney general has struggled to explain what was said in private meetings that are now of interest to investigators. Two sources familiar with the matter say investigators have asked the intelligence officials about their conversations with the President about the Russian Federation probe.

"There has been no collusion whatsoever, there has been no obstruction whatsoever", the president said.

On Tuesday, the Washington Post reported that Mr Trump had pressed Mr Comey's temporary replacement, Federal Bureau of Investigation deputy director and Comey loyalist Andrew McCabe, to tell him who he voted for in the 2016 election.
