February 07: The controversy surrounding director Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Padmaavat" has barely settled, now a new row seems to be emerging, this time over Kangana Ranaut's Manikarnika.

As the news of Kangana Ranaut's upcoming historical drama Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi hurting sentiments of the Sarva Brahman Mahasabha - for allegedly distorting historical facts - surfaced in the news headlines, it seemed like a premonition of a second anti-Padmaavat (like) wave. "We suspect the producers are making the film based on the controversial book "Rani" written by Jaishree Misra.", he further added. He claimed that the film shows an affair between the Rani of Jhansi and an Englishman: "We learnt about it from our friends and acquaintances in various parts of Rajasthan where some scenes of the film are being shot". It has also been requested by a member of the Brahman Sabha attending the conference that the film producer must give an affidavit to the state government that no distortion of history has been shown in the film. "If a film is to be made on her life, it should be a biopic". The statement from the producer read, "As responsible makers, we have taken utmost care while portraying Rani Laxmibai's character and have consulted historians and scholars".

Suffice it to say India no longer loves protests, especially over films. The film is produced by Kamal Jain and Zee Studios and helmed by Krish.

"We have already sent a letter to the producer of "Manikarnika", outlining our objections as well as warning upfront if our demands aren't met", he added. "We as country would be proud to showcase the bravery, courage and heroism of Rani Laxmibai to the world". She was a freedom fighter and one of the most respected leader our country has seen. We have nothing to hide. "This film is a tribute to Rani Laxmibai". "If the same had been done in the case of Padmaavat, there would have been no issue at all", he said.

Manikarnika was earlier being shot in Jaipur and Jodhpur.
