In the hours before Thursday's trading deadline, the Cavs unloaded six players, including Isaiah Thomas and Dwyane Wade, James' best friend, in three separate deals created to make the team younger, more athletic and as general manager Koby Altman put it, to revitalize a team he felt was "marching a slow death". Larry Nance Jr., the son of a Cavs legend, from the Lakers; plus-sized, smooth-shooting Rodney Hood from the Utah Jazz; and steady, playoff-tested point guard George Hill from the Sacramento Kings.

Thomas, who joined the Cavs from Boston only past year, had previously said he was sick of being traded. His injury held him out for most of the season and when he returned, he struggled to mesh with LeBron James. It's how it's suppose to be. Dwyane Wade and Derrick Rose, two former superstars who sacrificed more-lucrative deals to join Cleveland; and Channing Frye and Iman Shumpert, ?two key contributors on the Cavs' historic run to the championship in 2016. Meanwhile, Irving is becoming just as beloved as Thomas once was in Boston and it looks like his career is just getting started.

Luckily, we know the answers to both of those questions. The Hornets have been a disappointment this year, and it seems like they are looking to rebuild, and the most prominent way to do that would have been to trade their best player for some young assets and draft picks.

However, thanks to a flurry of moves from the Cleveland Cavaliers and some other interesting deals, Thursday afternoon was full of surprises and this deadline lived up to the hype. We'll see which names do actually enter the market, but I would assume some of the top teams aren't done tinkering on the margins. It hasn't been as planned, but I definitely want to be here.

Now, I bet James is ready to go to work with the new players. But I just want to be where I'm wanted. I mean, Isaiah fights for seven months to get back, and he has his future on the line, the whole situation had to be frustrating. As a result of the trade, they are poised to have an opportunity to sign two maximum-salaried players this coming summer. On the year with Cleveland, the Villa Rica, Ga., native has averaged 8.6 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 25.4 minutes per game. As far as the loser of the deadline, I'd have to say Isaiah Thomas.

While these moves could make Cleveland better this season, it's still hard to imagine this squad beating the Golden State Warriors. "That's how we've got to be".

Following Tuesday's embarrassing loss to the 17-win Orlando Magic - the Cavs blew a 21-point lead and scored nine points in the fourth quarter - Thomas questioned whether the team makes enough in-game adjustments. "He's going to compete every night and try to get whatever team he's on to the Finals, but I wanted to see a renewed sense of joy in him and being around him the last 24 hours has been great".

They managed to do all that and more-sending out bad contracts and disgruntled newcomers for a younger, more athletic crop of players that will immediately help a defense that's ranked near the bottom of the league all season.
