The internet was rife with cooing adoration upon seeing and hearing of Lucas Warren's most recent accomplishment. Gerber launched its Photo Search contest in 2010 and has annually been choosing a baby to represent their brand.

The first child with Down syndrome to become a Gerber baby in the 90 years since the contest began more than 90 years ago is a 1-year-old from Georgia.

"He may have Down syndrome, but he's always Lucas first", she said. (The Gerber baby drawing goes back many more decades.) Within minutes, the engaging smile of the spunky new "spokesbaby" charmed the anchors and captured America's heart.

"This is such a proud moment for us as parents knowing that Lucas has a platform to spread joy, not only to those he interacts with every day, but to people all over the country", said Lucas's mom, Cortney Warren.

His parents posted a photo on Instagram with the contest's hashtag showing the baby smiling.

Lucas and his family live in Dayton, OH. His dad has been in the Georgia National Guard for six years helping fix helicopters, and his mom works part-time. Lucas will also appear on the company's social media channels and in advertisements throughout the year.

Lucas's mother hoped that the spotlight on her child could "sheds light on the special needs community and educates people that with acceptance and support, individuals with special needs have the potential to change the world".
