It's unclear what - if any - scientific background Ward has to make the evaluation.

A woman claims she grew this vile-looking bacteria and fungi from inside a public hand dryer in just three minutes.

"Ok guys. ready to have your mind blown?!", she started the post. "It just looks cross because they were growing for 48 hours on very rich media, which is enough to make some pretty giant colonies".

Pathogenic fungi and bacteria are those that cause disease. "DO NOT EVER dry your hands in those things again", she warns.

The advent of jet hand dryers in our public toilets seemed like the next logical evolution in sanitary technology.

Still, she added that it's still better to use the air dryers than to not wash your hands at all.

Ward says she stuck the dish in a Dyson Airblade.

A similar study in 2014, using a bacterium instead of a virus, found that jet air dryers spread 4.5 times as much bacteria as warm air dryers, and 27 times as much as paper towels - but the study was funded by a trade association for paper manufacturers.

'This is literally what grows once incubated.

Ward goes on to call for a ban on the Dyson air dryer, and obviously the picture has touched a nerve for those who have come across it online. 'But the spores in the air of a bathroom are SERIOUS and this was obviously overlooked'.

She had previously revealed that it was a Dyson Airblade, however she has since removed the brand's name since the post went viral. Do not use them.

Dyson even created a well-produced online video interviewing a microbiologist who spends several minutes trying to debunk the scientific studies, also pointing out that some of them were funded by the paper towel and tissue industry, which they were.

"We're very surprised to see these results, and unclear on the methodology employed", Dyson said.

"All Dyson AirbladeTM hand dryers have HEPA filters that capture particles as small as bacteria from the washroom air before it leaves the machine".

Still, commenters on Nichole's post are convinced enough by the image.

'I never trusted those things and always dry my hands on my clothes if they have them in public restrooms.
