Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom on Thursday declared that the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris protected killer herdsmen while dancing on the grave of innocent people killed in the state.

Specifically, they reprimanded the panel for failing to invite and speak with the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, one of personalities at the centre of the farmers-herdsmen clashes in the state.

"We believe that the only objective for the Rivers governor's ego trip to Benue State is mainly to score cheap and pedestrian political points that have no value whatsoever to Rivers people". Wike, who donated N200 million to persons affected by the crisis, also visited the grave of the victims.

The Ekiti Governor said there was a federal conspiracy against the law and criticized the Federal Government and security agencies for poorly handling threats to the state prior to the New Year's Day attack which left 73 indigenes of the state dead.

"The Rivers governor has neither mentioned nor visited Ajakajak and other Andoni villages, where many persons have been gruesomely killed".

He advised the people of Benue to "change vehicle since the present vehicle of change has broken down". I can not be a governor over dead people.

Mr. Youghyough called on President Buhari to act decisively by arresting the leadership of Miyetti Allah Kuatal Hore and declare it a terrorist organisation to put an end to the senseless killing of the people so that they can go back to their ancestral homes.

"I charge the federal government to stop ruling Nigeria with a double standard".

National Publicity Secretary of the party, Kola Ologbondiyan, in a statement yesterday, said it is disheartening that the Presidency had refused to visit Benue State recalling that when the APC governors visited, after much entreaties, they failed to show any form of empathy to the victims. Killing innocent souls, sacking their communities is nothing but terrorism.

In sane climes, the security agencies are part and parcel of the law making process due to their expert advice on the security implications of laws made which must be of utmost importance. The Nigerian constitution has given you the powers to make law. "The law must not be compromised or aborted".

Responding, Governor Ortom, while thanking his Ekiti State counterpart and his entourage for the visit, regretted that the authorities did not heed his earlier alerts from Benue which could have saved those who were killed in the attacks.

While we are disturbed over these unfortunate state of happenings in the country which requires patriotic, matured, informed and responsible actions, we however disagree with the display of infantilism to a serious issue of national security by the honourable members of the house of Representatives.
