Carlos Cordeiro has been elected US Soccer President

The fear of the six candidates is that Carter and Cordeiro will have enough combined support to agree on a single candidate and shut the race down after the first ballot. Carter finished a close second to Cordeiro in the first two rounds of voting and ended up tied with former U.S national team player and NBC Sports analyst Kyle Martino for second place in the final round as her vote total dropped off. Cordeiro attended Harvard College and Harvard Business School.

Solo's bid fell short as Cordeiro won the presidency, garnering almost 70 percent of the vote, but her message didn't fall on deaf ears.

Cordeiro received just 36.3 percent of the vote during the first round of voting, but then received 41.8 percent in the second round and finally 68.6 percent in the third and final round.

Wynalda and Solo received 8.9 and 1.4 per cent respectively. "I want to thank all the candidates for a spirited campaign". He also promised to work hard to win the support of those who did not vote for him. I promise I will work for all of you to bring us together as one soccer community. He has been vice-president since 2016.

He has been credited with working to reform governance with a focus on greater transparency and accountability.

Earlier in the week, Solo called out Carter for the same refusal to hand over that revenue breakdown in an interview with the Guardian, during which she also speculated her questioning over image rights helped lead to her dismissal from the US national team.

Cordeiro replaces Gulati, who served in the role for 12 years. He'll succeed Sunil Gulati, who was U.S. Soccer's president since 2006.

He revealed at the beginning of December that his current term would be his last.

USA's men's national team failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russian Federation, marking the first time since 1986 the States have been left out of the final World Cup field.

Gulati was blamed in some circles within the sport in the country for America being unable to secure a spot at the 2018 tournament, the first not to feature the nation since 1986.

The US is also bidding to co-host the 2026 World Cup along with Mexico and Canada.

According to U.S. Soccer, Cordeiro is of Colombian and Portuguese heritage.

They could choose to leave the position vacate until their AGM in 2019 or convene a special meeting to hold an election.
