Elon Musk's Tesla Takes Wrong Turn Into Deep Space

"Starman", a mannequin in the Tesla Roadster, floats past the Earth in SpaceX's post-launch live stream.

The Tesla Roadster is now nearly 300,000 miles from earth.

Musk wrote " Last pic of Starman in Roadster enroute to Mars Orbit and then the Asteroid Belt".

Musk could eventually get paid more - a lot more - if Tesla hits its aggressive stock and market value targets. A "Starman" at the wheel.

However, company did not appear to be disheartened by the new development.

And like those records, the Starman and his ride are set to keep going and going and going.

Musk says the final firing of the upper stage put his red convertible into a solar orbit that stretches all the way to the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.

"Congratulations Elon Musk and SpaceX on the successful Falcon Heavy launch".

The auto and its dummy driver are now heading towards the asteroid belt. The vehicle, launched on Feb 5 through a Space X rocket, to Mars took a wrong turn by powerful thrust of engine. And as the screen showed the auto soaring above the Earth, the webcast blasted David Bowie's "Life on Mars?"

An example of the golden record carried on the Voyager spacecraft.

He noted that outside of the earth's atmosphere, the car's cherry-red color looked "kind of weird, " too crisp" - proof that it was real. "Maybe more, but that's roughly the right number, I think".

Indeed, the photo of that surreal red auto and the silliness it represents have served to ignite the imaginations of millions around the globe.

But it was more than just watching the rocket blast into space that caught our attention. Hundreds of media representatives reported on the event, one of the biggest turnouts since the last space shuttle launch in July 2011 and NASA's Orion capsule flight test in December 2014.

The powerful rocket launched from the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida, at 3.45pm EST (8.45pm GMT) before breaking out to into space.

"It's maybe not intuitive, but the power to energy demand on the battery in the heavy truck is actually generally less than in our performance vehicles", adds Tesla Chief Technical Officer J.B. Straubel. "It's definitely less also in most cases than even the high rate of discharge energy products". The company has obtained contracts from the Air Force, Arabsat and ViaSat to launch payloads to orbit.

"It's just a matter of time", Musk said on a conference call with analysts.
