Manikarnika Star Kangana Ranaut Dismisses Brahmin Mahasabha's Allegations As 'Idle Talk'

Another fringe group rises against Manikarnika

Directed by Krish and produced by Zee Studios in association with Kamal Jain, Kangana essays the lead role of Rani Laxmibai, while Sonu Sood essays the male lead.

Even before the Padmaavat controversy could completely die down, another historical film is facing opposition from a religious outfit claiming the misrepresentation of facts.

Brahmin group Sarv Brahmin Mahasabha of Rajasthan has raised an objection over the film, alleging it features a love scene between Rani Laxmibai and a British East India company agent. "And they have assured us in writing, so if they err in future, we can always rebut them", said Mishra.

The latest actress who has faced the brunt of this is Kangana Ranaut, whose upcoming period film, Manikarnika, is being accused of distorting historical facts by allegedly displaying a romantic sequence between Rani Laxmibai and a British officer. Further, he clarified that there was nothing objectionable in the movie or in the scenes that were being referred to by the Brahmin group, and the film has not distorted history in anyway. "She is a symbol of valour and the film's story depicts the same". About the author I can only say that it is written by K. V Vijayendra Prasad the father of Rajamouli of Bahubali. "The film's title is Manikarnika, because it is her name". Rani Laxmibai was a freedom fighter and one of the most respected leaders our country has seen. "We will take any step for maintaining the glory of Rani Laxmibai and our Brahmin community".

Mr Mishra said all issues have been resolved with the film producer. "We withdraw our protests. He (Producer) has also refuted the reports and rumours saying film is based on Jaishree Misra's book".
