For the Niagara Frontier, total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches are expected.

"Periods of heavy snow will arrive into Friday across the southern Great Lakes", said weather.com meteorologist Jonathan Belles.

Winter Storm Warnings have been expanded northward into Iowa and Dane counties overnight until 9 a.m. on Friday morning, and for Jefferson County until noon on Friday.

Though the snow will wane off by Friday night, the winter weather won't be done just yet.

More than 1,000 flights have been canceled at the city's O'Hare and Midway worldwide airports.

Chicago's O'Hare and Midway worldwide airports cancelled more than 170 flights on Thursday before the storm hit, and several airlines were also anticipating delays or cancellations. The Chicago area absorbed six inches of snow with another four inches in Milwaukee and up to two inches in Detroit, the broadcaster said.

By early Friday, more than 100 flights were canceled at Detroit Metropolitan Airport in Romulus, Michigan. If the storm shifts north, the amounts will be higher and if it moves south, they will be lower.

Slide-offs and crashes also were reported early Friday.

Because of the anticipated weather conditions, normal Friday refuse service will be delayed until Saturday, according to a February 8 email from Elmhurst Communications Manager Kassondra Schref.

American, United and Southwest airlines warned travelers to expect more flight cancellations to and from Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio.

MDOT operates 85 plows in South west MI and have begun 12 hours shifts to try and keep up with the snow on state trunk lines and highways in southwest MI.
