We don't expect Ford or Toyota to be launching vehicles into space anytime soon.

If there's one saying that Tesla CEO Elon Musk must be familiar with, it's "shoot for the stars". The Ukrainian company provided its An-124-100 Ruslan aircraft for transportation of heavy rocket components to Florida.

Landing the first stages is always secondary objective - and the fact that Musk's space company managed to land two of three is a feat in itself.

The photos show the Falcon Heavy's 27 Merlin main engines firing to propel the 3.1-million-pound launcher into the sky. The rocket carrying a red Tesla Roadster is heading for an elliptical orbit around the sun that extends as far out as MarsÕs orbit. SpaceX, Ketcham and others have told me, has helped spur the rebound of the states aerospace industry, hit hard by the end of the space shuttle program in 2011.

In addition, both the Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy have the capability of allowing U.S. Special Operations Commands small satellites to hitch a ride.

The electric vehicle maker was not immediately available to respond to CNBC's request for comment on Rusch's criticism of Musk. The company's shares jumped 3 percent to close at $345 Wednesday after SpaceX successfully launched its Falcon Heavy rocket with Musk's cherry red Roadster as its cargo.

The day after Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk blasted his Tesla Roadster into space, his electric auto company's mounting losses brought him back to Earth again.

The auto was launched in space on February 6, 2018.

In an Instagram post, Musk explained test flights often include mass simulators involving concrete or steel blocks. Now The Tesla is currently in orbit while playing David Bowie's legendary track about space travel. That's just 3% of Musk's original plan of rolling out 20,000 Model 3s per month by the end of 2017.
