However, with the drop in crude price at $65.28 per barrel, Nigeria's is not yet at risk over the funding of its N8.612 trillion 2018 budget.

Shale producers cut costs and improved drilling techniques in recent years, so they can boost production quickly if prices make it worthwhile. US oil production eclipsed ten09 million barrels per day (mbpd) last December, according to the US Energy Information Administration, and has almost caught up with the US record set during the Texas oil boom 47 years ago.

Also later Friday, Baker Hughes Inc.is set to release its weekly data on the number of rigs drilling for oil in the US, a bellwether for activity in the sector.

But they have given up just about all of those gains as swirling fears have bled from the stock market to commodities as and as investors have focused on the unrelenting rise in USA production. US producers, by contrast, export on the basis of freight costs and price spreads between USA and other kinds of crude oil.

US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude dipped to $61.27 a barrel, or 48 cent down compared to the previous day's trading.

CGTN's John Terrett spoke to Carl Larry about oil prices fell on Wednesday.

US producers are also displacing foreign oil at home. In addition, there's a bunch of refinery turnaround scheduled in spring increasing expectations that some refiners will reduce operating rates.
