A second White House aide resigns over domestic abuse allegations

NYT Trump defends Hicks as Porter fallout continues

Porter, who is now in a relationship with White House communications director Hope Hicks, announced his resignation last Wednesday after the unearthing of domestic abuse allegations from two of his ex-wives, Colbie Holderness and Jennifer Willoughby, who shared stories and photo evidence of alleged repeated physical abuse. No lawsuits have been filed against the more than a dozen women who say Trump harassed or assaulted them.

Speechwriter Sorensen has vehemently resigned after being accused of domestic abuse by his former wife who claimed that he emotionally and violently abused her while they were married. "Now, he also says he's innocent, and I think you have to remember that ... but we absolutely wish him well". He did a very good job when he was in the White House. "And we hope he has a wonderful career, and hopefully he will have a great career ahead of him". And they've come amid White House finger-pointing about who knew what, and when, about the severity of the spousal abuse allegations.

Not all Hope is lost in the White House it seems.

In a meeting Friday, Kelly encouraged subordinates to spread the word that he removed Porter within 40 minutes of receiving evidence on February 6 that the spousal abuse allegations, first reported by the United Kingdom newspaper the Daily Mail, were credible, said a person familiar with the matter.

Sorensen's ex-wife Jessica Corbett told The Washington Post that while they were married, he ran a auto over her foot, extinguished a cigarette on her hand, threw her into a wall and grabbed her by her hair, but that she did not report the incidents due to her then-husband's connections to law enforcement.

The Trump administration told the Post it learned of the allegations Thursday night. She went on to say that she told the Federal Bureau of Investigation about the abuse and the incidents, when Federal Bureau of Investigation officials spoke to her about her husband's security clearance.

On Saturday, Trump weighed in on the two staffers who resigned. "I'm going to keep standing with them, and trusting them, even if the President won't", the Washington senator tweeted, along with a subtweet of Trump's original message.

The president's rejection of the Democratic memo was in contrast to his enthusiastic embrace of releasing the Republican document, which accuses the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Justice Department of abusing their surveillance powers in obtaining a secret warrant to monitor former Trump campaign foreign policy adviser Carter Page.

Of Porter, Trump said, "It's obviously a tough time for him".

Trump pushed for the death penalty in the Central Park Five case, telling Larry King in 1989, "maybe hate is what we need if we're gonna get something done".

"There is no tolerance in this White House and no place in America for domestic abuse", Pence said. White House counsel Don McGahn said in a letter to the committee that the memo contains "numerous properly classified and especially sensitive passages" and asked the panel to revise it with the help of the Justice Department. He told the Post that Corbett was abusive toward him.

White House chief of staff John Kelly, who publicly has offered contradictory accounts of his handling of the Porter situation, is facing questions about his future in the job.

According to multiple reports, the White House has known about the accusations against Porter for months as they held up his security clearance, but did not act.
