PM Modi, Jordan King Agree To Boost Bilateral Ties

On Sunday, Prime Minister Modi is also expected to meet Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE in Dubai.

It was straight down to business after Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed at Abu Dhabi airport on his second visit to the United Arab Emirates.

This is PM Modi's first visit to Jordan and also the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister in 30 years.

Prime Minister and Palestinian President are likely to witness exchange of some Memorandums of Understanding with India committing further support to Palestine's infrastructure development and nation-building efforts, B Bala Bhaskar, Joint Secretary (West Asia and North Africa) at the Ministry of External Affairs, said. Before meeting President Abbas, the Prime Minister will visit Yasser Arafat's museum and will pay tribute to the Palestine leader.

After his Palestine visit, Modi will reach Abu Dhabi, the capital of UAE which is home to a huge Indian diaspora, on Saturday evening - his second visit after August 2015.

Modi said his country "hopes for peace and stability in this region".

Mr Modi's visit to the West Bank was seen, in part, as an attempt to compensate the Palestinians after he hosted Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu for six days last month, in a reflection of warming ties between Israel and India.

This is the first Indian investment in upstream oil sector of the UAE, transforming the traditional buyer-seller relationship to a long-term investor relationship.

Temple Committee members presented the temple literature to Modi, who arrived in Abu Dhabi on Saturday, and Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The hype around India's strategic ties with Israel and the bonhomie around Modi's visit to Israel and its Prime Minister's visit to India also do not seem to perturb the Palestinians.

This is an honour for India and a symbol of Palestine's friendship.

"India hopes that soon Palestine will become a free country in a peaceful manner".

On the last leg of his trip, Modi would travel to Oman from February 11-12.

Modi and his entourage had flown in by helicopter from Jordan, landing near Abbas's Ramallah headquarters and laying a wreath at the mausoleum of Arafat. He also commended the Indian community for working together with the people of the Gulf region, as partners in their dreams for the future. "India has to reject America's designs on the issue", said Former Ambassador of India to Saudi Arabia, Oman and the UAE, Talmiz Ahmad.
