A report by FoneArena that both the sender and receiver need to have the WhatsApp Payments feature to successfully transact on the messaging app. Users have reportedly been facing issues linking their bank accounts to the app, although this is expected from a feature available in beta.

The payments feature is not visible in the WhatsApp settings for all users.

WhatsApp commands a strong user base of 250 million across India.

The company has been working on support for a payments feature for some time, which would take advantage of UPI (Unified Payments Interface) and include support by a number of Indian banks, including State Bank of India, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, and Axis Bank.

Facebook-owned WhatsApp joins Truecaller and Google in the league of multinational corporations that have entered the fast-growing UPI ecosystem to corner a share of India's digital payments market, which saw transactions worth Rs 56,600 crore in 2017 calendar year. Select payment to transfer funds to other accounts. You can check these pages before turning on payments feature of the application. The feature is now in beta, according to sources familiar with the company's plans, but hasn't been publicly announced because it's not widely available at this time. This works in the favour of the messaging application as transaction between different digital wallets is still not an option. If you haven't made a UPI account earlier, that will have to be done on the UPI app or on the bank's website. But, if a user of this feature sends a message to the other user of WhatsApp without this feature, the feature will get activated. This will allow users to post stickers suiting their moods instead of only emojis.
