Pence continued his tough rhetoric even after South Korean officials announced North Korean leader Kim Jong Un had invited President Moon Jae-in to Pyongyang for talks.

Earlier Friday, Warmbier and Pence met with a group of North Korean defectors, and Pence warned about a possible North Korean "charm offensive" during the games.

At a Games rife with political overtones, US Vice-President Mike Pence was at the nearby Gangneung Ice Arena as the first North Korean athlete flopped.
