Tottenham Hotspur defeated Arsenal 1-0 at Wembley Stadium on Saturday afternoon and fans were delighted with the performance of one of their star defenders on social media.

In front of a record Premier League attendance, Kane made amends for his earlier miss within four minutes, towering above Laurent Koscielny from Davies' left-wing cross to head superbly into the bottom left corner past Cech. The sole focus of the club, at this point should be winning the Europa League and cementing a place in next season's Champions League especially given how strong their fellow competitors in the top four are.

Kane has now scored seven goals in his last seven matches against the Gunners, a club who released him as a youngster prior to him joining Spurs.

It was Kane's seventh goal in seven league games against Arsenal.

It took until the half hour mark to register the games first clear cut chance when Kane beat the offside trap to meet Christian Eriksen's whipped cross, but his headed effort flew over the crossbar from just six yards out.

'This was a game we couldn't afford to lose, ' said Wenger. "It was a great performance by the team and thankfully I was there to put one away", said Kane, who also passed up other chances as Spurs' could easily have ran out more convincing winners. "I think that's what Harry is at Tottenham and I think that connection will only get stronger".

"In the first half we missed three or four opportunities on the counter attack which is hard to swallow, always the final ball".

Tottenham got the better of Arsenal in the 195th North London Derby as they edged past their rivals to climb to third place in the table, all but ending Arsenal's top four hopes.

While Spurs continued to send the ball into Arsenal's penalty area - albeit with a lack of purposeful intent - the visitors were able to hold firm and keep themselves in the hunt for all three points as the half ended with very little to talk about. There was more at stake than just the derby, I said that before the game. "Once they had scored the goal, that maybe played a part in it. Football is about scoring goals".
