His injuries were not life threatening and he was taken to the Prince Charles hospital in a stable condition.

Energex says at the height of the storm about 130,000 people were left in the dark after more than 265,000 lightning strikes and high winds.

Forecaster at the Bureau of Meteorology Michael Paech said the storm had brought strong winds, but not much rainfall.

Between 20 and 40 millimetres fell across the region, with Brisbane receiving as little as 15 millimetres. With the Bureau's warning thresholds, anything greater than 90 kilometres per hour is considered damaging and we do see those in severe storms.

In Brisbane's CBD, hundreds of people waiting to see U.S. band Paramore were forced to evacuate Riverstage due to concerns over lightning, with the concert resuming about an hour later.

At one point last night, more than 100,000 homes were without power.

Hail from this afternoon’s storm at Boonah

Fix crews were scrambling to restore power to about 57,000 properties that remained without power after destructive winds, gusting beyond 100km/h in some places, downed hundreds of power lines across the region.

These thunderstorms are moving towards the northeast and are forecast to affect Beaudesert and the area between Boonah and Beaudesert by 5:35 pm, and Boonah, Beenleigh, Laidley and Caloundra by 6:05 pm.

"Storms have caused mass damage including ripping down 500+ power lines".

Energex spokesman Ty Marega urged residents to be aware of hazards during the clean-up.

Forecasters warned residents to move cars under cover, be wary of fallen powerlines and seek shelter if necessary.
