Dhawan becomes first Indian to score hundred in his 100th ODI

Having already won 3 ODIs, Virat Kohli-led India will clash against South Africa for the 4th time with the aim to seal the series. Dhawan has scored two half centuries, but the rest of the batting lineup, barring Sharma, has either not received a chance to bat, or have not performed when they have. With 40 runs from four matches at an average of just 10, Rohit is only putting more pressure on himself with each passing game. The Indian skipper persisted with Chahal from one end and Pandya from the other. It was hit out or get out and with nearly nothing to lose, Klaasen and Miller indulged in batting that was very near maniacal.

That India were able to reach 289/7 was exclusively down to MS Dhoni's effort of 42* off 43 balls.

The veteran wicketkeeper-batsman has clearly not been in his elements and his Saturday innings was yet another stark reminder of how badly his near-perfect hand-eye coordination has been betraying him lately.

On the eve of the Pink-Day ODI, Chris Morris spoke about how the occasion for some reason makes South Africa bring it on. The rest of India's line-up faces many questions. Even Virat Kohli saw the amusing side of it and smiled in acknowledgement. Matter of millimetres That said, South Africa are looking at the first three ODIs differently and say there is a lot of positivity that can be drawn from the defeats.

The combination of AB de Villiers and Pink Day worked once again in favour of South Africa as they stop the Indian juggernaut.

The left-hander punished the tourists for those failures and by the time he got out for a 28-ball 39, he had done his job. Their only cause for cheer against the Proteas here came in January 2011, when Munaf Patel took 4-29 to lead India to a thrilling one-run win.

India looked well placed for victory when Shikhar Dhawan (109) recorded a century in his 100th match in the 50-over format and captain Virat Kohli clocked up 75 to move up to fifth in his country's list of all-time ODI run-scorers.

South Africa have won all five Pink ODIs so far and will need continue that streak to keep the series alive.

In the 18th over of the innings, India reprieved Miller not once but twice. The wiry spinner seemed to have read the batsman's intentions and bowled a leg-break wide of the off-stump which, after turning, moved nearly outside the cut strip.

South Africa lost two quick wickets to Kuldeep Yadav who trapped JP Duminy in front and Hashim Amla was caught by on 33 by Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The very reasonable explanation that the wet outfield made it tougher for spinners to grip - and therefore spin and control the ball - was at odds, however, with persisting with both when two other options were available. They went for 119 runs in less than 12 overs.

A couple of balls later, Miller was once again at the receiving end of some serendipity. "We are going to play the World Cup away from home, that I think is going to be the massive factor for us", he said. In his career of four decades as a player, commentator and coach, a series win in South Africa has not happened for India.
