The model released a series of tweets not only explaining why she seems so skinny, but that her body weight shouldn't be a topic of discussion by anyone but her. Gigi revealed she was diagnosed with Hashimoto disease (an underactive thyroid condition that causes your body functions to slow down) and has been undergoing treatments to help with that, as well as other health conditions.

"For those of you so determined to come up w why my body has changed over the years, you may not know that when I started @ 17 I was not yet diagnosed w/Hashimoto's disease; those of u who called me "too big for the industry" were seeing inflammation & water retention due to that", Hadid tweeted.

After stating that she was done explaining the way her body looks, Hadid called on commentators to use social media for a better goal.

Zayn Malik's girlfriend Gigi Hadid has taken to social media to launch a strongly-worded rant at body shamers who branded the model "too skinny". The supermodel has taken to Twitter to defend herself against accusations from followers that she looked "too thin" on the runway at New York Fashion Week.

She wrapped up her statement with: 'I will not further explain the way my body looks...stop putting me in that box just because u dont understand the way my body has matured'.

Several of Hadid's famous friends applauded her for talking about this so transparently on Twitter.

Hashimoto's-also known as chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis-is a condition in which the immune system attacks the thyroid, and often leads to an underactive thyroid gland.

Shortly after her posts, Hadid got lots of love online from fellow models.

"I have Hashimoto's disease. Use your energy to lift those that you admire rather than be cruel to those u don't", she said. Sorry you have to explain something so ridiculous to people.

This is not the first time Hadid has responded to internet trolls who have shared their negative opinions of her body with her. "It's now been two years since taking the medication for it, so for the [Victoria's Secret] show I didn't want to lose any more weight".

She complemented the look with the gown's pinstripe ruffle top and toughened up the all-black ensemble with a pair of light grey military-style boots.
