Instagram now notifies users if someone takes a screenshot of their Stories

Instagram will Now Notify Screenshot Alerts

Instagram has pushed-out a number of new feature to make it easier to follow other users' activities on the platform.

Of course, as the years have gone by, both Snapchat and Instagram have appropriated the other's features, with Instagram adopting Snapchat's "stories" features a while back now Now, as Techchrunch reports, it seems that Instagram is jumping on the "screenshot notification" bandwagon too.

Understandably, this feature is introduced for privacy reasons as there were cases where the screenshots from Instagram Stories were misused by people. While the Story making user won't be notified explicitly about who took the screenshot, they will be able to find the ones who did in the list of Story viewers. Talking about Instagram Stories, in brief, the feature lets you post an image or video inside your Stories which will not remain on your account permanently. Notably, users can rewatch stories as many times as they want within 24 hours, with the creator unable to see exactly how many times one person watched it.

"Next time you take a screenshot or screen recording, the person who posted the story will be able to see", the warning message reads. To be clear, creators won't get a specific notification when someone takes a screenshot of their story, it will only show up in their list of story viewers.

Most probably Instagram is testing this feature to see if it has any prominent impact on the user engagement, before finalizing the decision whether the company should roll out the feature for all users or not. Any screenshot of a direct message triggers a notification to the sender, but a screenshot of a story will just result in a notation being placed next to the offender's name in the viewer analytics tab.
