Mohan Bhagwat's comment on Indian army triggers outrage despite RSS clarification

Congress leader Anand Sharma said it was deeply disrespectful of RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat to say that while it would take the Indian Army 6-7 months to prepare for war, his organization could do it in three days.

Amid the controversy over a statement by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has said that it is not a matter of controversy if an organisation says that it eager to safeguard the borders.

Gandhi slammed Bhagwat over his remarks that the RSS could "prepare" military personnel faster than the Army.

He said that organising a parallel army is akin to treason, and added that what came out through Bhagawat's words is the danger that was pointed out by the LDF in the past.

"His statement exposes the RSS's hidden agenda to float parallel militias to wreak havoc and crush national unity".

Vaidya added that Bhagwat's remark was not a comparison between the Indian Army and the Sangh Swayamsevaks, but a comparison between general society and swayamsevaks, when given the opportunity to be trained by the Indian Army.

He went on to explain that the Sangh may not be a military or a para-military organisation, but it is a "parivarik sangathan" (family organisation), whose members are ready for any sacrifice. "Both are to be trained by the Indian Army only", RSS spokesperson Manmohan Vaidya said.

RSS and BJP leaders said the party led by the jailed Lalu Prasad Yadav is "incapable of understanding the ideal of patriotism". In emergency situation (not Congress emergency), every Indian must volunteer to stand with Defence Forces.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has also defended Bhagwat. Reacting to RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat's comment that only three days are enough to prepare its "disciplined" cadre for any emergency situation, the Chief Minister, in his facebook post, said his statement shows that RSS has no respect to Country's Constitution.

In another tweet, Rijiju targeted the Congress saying "who had asked for proof of surgical strike from Indian Army?"
