"Derbies are good games to win and we're on a good run of derby wins".

However, it was the briliiant match-long effort by Jedinak that drew praise from fans.

N'Doye responded by putting John Terry in a headlock as the former Chelsea star stepped in to back-up his teammate which resulted in his red card.

Villa took the lead when Albert Adomah fired in the opener with a sweet strike from the left side after 60 minutes, with Hourihane wrapping up the three points with a glorious goal 20 minutes later.

The win was the seventh match in a row the Villains have won in the league and took them a point ahead of Derby County as they look to secure an automatic promotion spot.

If Aston Villa do win promotion back to the Premier League, Jedinak will be 34 by the time their comeback season kicks off, but on the back of this performance there is still life in the old dog yet. We found our rhythm better than Birmingham and we were able to to create some good openings.

"He is a hard-working, experienced manager and he controlled everything terrifically well", his assistant, Colin Calderwood, said afterwards.

'We are certainly enjoying the elation of beating Birmingham on derby day as the players are very focused on the future'.

Adomah's side dominated the away side from start to finish.
