Teen Gerard wins slopestyle snowboarding for USA's 1st gold

But on Sunday, a beaming McMorris stood proudly on the Olympic podium after winning the bronze medal in men's snowboard slopestyle.

Max Parrot, far left, and Mark McMorris, far right, earned Canada's first two medals of this year's Winter Olympics on Saturday night. McMorris, who suffered a tragic injury in the run up to the Games, finished in third with a 85.20.

That last boarder was Parrot, who adjusted his run after falling on the same trick during his first two runs. The competition was fierce but our athletes once again showed incredible perseverance and blew us away with fantastic performances that resulted in Canada's first medals of the Games!

This is McMorris's second Olympic medal and he'll have another shot at getting on the podium when he tackles the big air event this week.

Nicholson, was scored a 76.41 on his second run, which was his best in the three-run final.

After watching the judges favour a clean but safe performance by Gerard, Parrot made a tactical call on the fly to scale back the degree of difficulty. "It's been a bit of a hard thing to deal with every morning as a 24-year-old feeling pretty beat up, but it's all worth it".

Norway's Marit Bjørgen took silver, 7.8 seconds back, to become the most decorated female winter Olympian of all time while Finland's Krista Parmakoski clinched bronze, 10.1 seconds behind the victor.

"I said to myself, 'Listen Max, you fell two straight times". "So I think he just stopped that for his image or maybe he does it secretly, I don't know".

The US snowboarder finished with a best score of 87.16, just 01.16 points ahead of rival Parrot.
