The Porter Debacle Confirms Trump's Incompetence

White House Chief of Staff John Kelly walks with White House Staff Secretary Rob Porter to depart with U.S. President Donald Trump aboard the Marine One helicopter from the White House in Washington

White House Chief of Staff John Kelly walks with White House Staff Secretary Rob Porter to depart with U.S. President Donald Trump aboard the Marine One helicopter from the White House in Washington

Two White House aides made abrupt exits this week amid allegations of spousal abuse, CBS News' Laura Podesta reported.

President Trump fired off a tweet Saturday morning, asking, "Is there no such thing any longer as Due Process?".

Meanwhile the President's former chief of staff is also calling out the mainstream media, claiming its reports surrounding General Kelly are false.

But it wasn't until Wednesday, when a photo surfaced of Porter's wife with a black eye, that the White House took action.

The latest imbroglios involving White House personnel are taking place during a turbulent cultural conversation about sexual harassment, with powerful people being laid low by allegations that sometimes stretch back decades.

President Donald Trump says he hopes an aide who resigned this week in the wake of domestic abuse allegations has "a great career ahead of him".

"I spoke to the President last night, and I told him I would be with you today. And we hope he has a wonderful career", Mr Trump said.

Kelly also defended Porter, who left the White House on February 8 after the ex-wives' accusations were first reported on February 6.

As questions continued to swirl over how the two officials were permitted to join the White House staff, Trump has appeared to side with the accused men. He said very strongly yesterday that he's innocent.

Yet another White House aide is stepping down.

"He totally denies, he says it didn't happen", Trump told reporters. "Up until the time when it became obvious, when the photographs came out, when the person was not being honest with the president".

According to the Post, Sorensen's ex-wife "claimed that he was violent and emotionally abusive during their turbulent 2½ -year marriage".

On CNN's State of the Union, Conway told host Jake Tapper that there is credible evidence against Porter and that she was "horrified" when she learned of the situation last week. He also seemed to suggest that he doubted the accusations against the ousted staff secretary.

Thus Trump's immediate defense of other men accused of similar behavior is not surprising - but it is repugnant all the same.

"I can tell you that some of the women that are complaining, I know how much he's helped them, and even recently", Trump said in an interview on NBC's "Meet The Press" in July, 2016.

Trump then stressed that he "was very sad" to hear about the accusation against him.

"The Trump Administration continues to ignore opportunities public stance against domestic violence, " the group posted.

Hicks still has not publicly criticized Porter, but instead said it would be out of character for him to hit a woman, notes The Post.
