What to watch: Women's super-G

Ledecka showed off her gold medal on Instagram.

The Czech Republic's Ester Ledecka, the 2017 parallel giant slalom snowboard world champion, skied to super-G gold at Jeongseon Alpine Centre, beating silver medalist and defending Olympic champion Anna Veith from Austria by 0.25 of a second and the bronze medalist, Liechtenstein's Tina Weirather, by nearly 3 seconds. For long seconds, his arms hanging, the Czech 22-year-old has set the scoreboard in disbelief. There must be a lot of pressure on them.

"'Til today, I thought I am a better snowboarder", Ledecka said.

She went up the hill a snowboarder but came down an Olympic champion skier.

"I'm really trying to win and do a good run every time but I didn't really realize that this really can happen", said Ledecka, who wore goggles throughout her indoor press conference because "I was not as prepared as the other girls that I would be at the (victory) ceremony and I don't have no make-up on". She exclaimed "How did that happen?" after seeing her time.

She shook her head side to side, convinced that what she saw was a mistake or a timing glitch. "I think it's better for us and better for TV, which is why they said they'd change it to begin with".

She won the parallel giant slalom at the world snowboard championships last March.

When she was asked about the people who have told her to specialize in either skiing or snowboarding, Ledecka replied that if she were pressured to choose one sport, she would choose another coach, instead. Throughout her snowboarding career, she's been skiing on her off days.

American Lindsey Vonn, who was a medal favorite for the event but wound up finishing tied for sixth, was even interviewed on television under the casual presumption that she finished tied for fifth.

Vonn had a fast run before going too wide on a turn near the bottom.

"I thought it was either going to be really great or really bad", Vonn said. I didn't really have a choice in the matter so I did the best that I could.

Take a look at her reaction - it's hardly the face of someone who believes they just won gold.

Vonn - absent from Sochi 2014 due to injury - was left to rue a late error on her own run, which ended her hopes of claiming a medal. The two previous medals were both bronze, won by Sarka Strachova in Vancouver in 2010 and Olga Charvatova in 1984 in Sarajevo.
