Taking to Twitter, one concerned resident wrote: "In Mexico City the quake alarms went off and gave us approximately 30 seconds to get out".

The Oaxaca state prosecutor's office said in a statement revealed that the crash resulted in the deaths of five women, four men and three children at the scene while an injured victim died later at the hospital.

The tremor in a rural area in the southwestern state of Oaxaca was felt strongly in Mexico City where thousands of people fled buildings.

According to Time, the natural disaster had a 7.2 magnitude, and the aftershocks made people fear from staying in their own homes.

A 7.2-magnitude quake rattled Mexico on Friday, causing little damage but triggering a tragedy when a minister's helicopter crash-landed on the way to the epicenter, Oaxaca, killing thirteen people, including three children, on the ground.
