Having defeated Eding Sports 3-0 in the first leg played in Jos last week, NPFL champions Plateau United edged the Cameroon side 1-0 in the second leg on Wednesday.

Plateau United and MFM FC have progressed to the first round of the CAF Champions League following impressive results in their second-leg matches yesterday.

Plateau United will now be facing Tunisian giants, Etoile Du Sahel, in the next round while MFM FC will still have to wait to know their next opponent.

Chijioke Akuneto scored the sole goal to help the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side qualify 2-1 on aggregate.

The hosts were bereft of their main attacking threats in Akila Jesse and Sikiru Olatunbosun due to their ineligibility to participate in the competition.

MFM FC will now take on high scoring Mouloudia Club de Algeria who eliminated A.S Otoho of Congo Brazzaville 9-2 on aggregate.

Speaking to Tribunesport after the match, MFM coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu, though was happy with the result said they had to work on their attack if they meant to go far in the competition. The Aiteo Cup victor lost the first leg 2-1 at home in Uyo a fortnight ago.

Akwa United, however, came up with a spirited performance and capped a wonderful day for Nigeria on the continent by stunning Banjul Hawks of Gambia winning 2-0 after losing the first leg 2-1 at home in the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium to win 4-3 on aggregate and secure a passage into the next round of the CAF Confederations Cup. "I have confidence in every aspect of the team apart from the attack, but we have to work to support that area of our game so that we can get the goals that will qualify us for the group stage".
