Alcatel reveals the world's first Android Go phone

Confusingly enough, the brand new phone debuted by Alcatel that's running the new system is also called the Android Go, or if you want to get technical, the Android Oreo (Go Edition), and unfortunately for eagerly-waiting Android fans out there, reviews are lukewarm thus far.

Earlier this week Google revealed that the first phones as part of its Android Go program would be unveiled at MWC 2018, and now the first one is official with the Alcatel 1X...

And at the lower end of the rung is Alcatel's 1X, due out in April in certain markets.

The device offers features such as Social Square, which places recently captured photos alongside your camera app's live preview in a split-screen.

That being said, there isn't much else to talk about regarding the 1X. More specifically, the Alcatel 5 features a 5.7-inch 1440×720 pixel screen with an 18:9 aspect ratio. The Alcatel 1T 7 (above) is the smaller of the duo, packing a 7-inch 1024×600 display along with a quad-core MediaTek MT8321A/D processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, a microSD card slot, 2MP rear and VGA front cameras, and a 2,580mAh battery.

The goal of Android Go is to make Android efficient enough to where it can power ultra-low-end devices on the latest versions of the OS, all without compromising the experience as a whole.

On the camera side of things, the 1x features an 8-megapixel front shooter and a 13-megapixel rear camera. It has RAM, but you can only opt for 1 or 2GB. Strangely, there is no fingerprint sensor, unlike many other phones in the sub-$100 range (like LG's new K series devices). The device's battery measures in at 3,000mAh. Sad face emoji here. "Stay tuned as we'll have more impressions on Android Go throughout the week, but Alcatel hasn't given us a thrilling first look".
