The big American win unfolded in front of first daughter Ivanka Trump, who is leading the U.S. delegation in this final weekend of competition.

Team USA beat Sweden 10-7 on Saturday.

Devin Heroux of CBC got a close-up shot of team skipper John Shuster's gold medal. The win marked only the second Olympic medal the United States has ever won in curling and the first since 2006.

The team of Shuster, George, Matt Hamilton and John Landsteiner, with alternate Joe Polo - another bronze medalist from Turin - were ranked 13th in the world ahead of the Games and they made a slow start to the competition before winning four straight matches to reach the final.

But that gave the hammer to the Americans for the 10th and final end. If you haven't seen the shot that won the match, you can do so here.

In a tactical, intense final match-up, Sweden was just as tough as advertised.

Sweden took the silver medal. Clearly, the Swedes, with Niklas Edin as skip, had their eyes set on gold this time.

With the score deadlocked at 5-5, United States skip John Shuster provided some last-rock magic with a pinpoint double take-out for five that left their Swedish opponents stunned as the Gangneung Curling Centre erupted into chants of "U-S-A, U-S-A!"

They were tied at 5-apiece after seven.

Against Sweden, skipped by Sochi silver medalist Niklas Edin, the US were locked at 5-5 after seven of 10 ends but Shuster's men scored five in the eighth end to open up a huge gap.

Sweden picked up two more in the ninth but couldn't dig itself out of the hole.

Shuster happens to have played a key role in both of the United States' Olympic curling medals.
