Two people shot dead near Zurich bank

While there has been no explanation for the shooting as of yet, local police in Zurich have said that there is no indication that it is terror related.

A man shot and killed his companion, reportedly an employee of Swiss bank UBS, in front of shocked onlookers in the heart of Zurich on Friday before turning the gun on himself, police said.

The second person later died, police said in a statement.

"An AFP reporter on the scene saw around a dozen police vehicles and heavily-armed officers controlling the cordoned-off area".

"Emergency workers found a dead and a seriously injured person on scene who has also succumbed to their injuries".

No further details were provided, though the police assured that there was no danger to the public.

Eyewitnesses had reported at least four or five shots being fired.

Images in the Swiss media showed two bodies on the pavement, with what appeared to be a pistol close to the hand of one of them.

City police said they rushed to the scene near the central train station in Switzerland's biggest city after passers-by reported hearing shots on Friday afternoon.
