The boy, 13-year-old Keith Simons, came out of the bathroom holding a semi-automatic rifle just before classes began and then abruptly went back inside and shot himself in the head, says Jackson Township Police Chief Mark Brink.

The teen claimed the school shooting would be "bigger than anything this country has ever seen", and said he had been planning it for several weeks.

"I will never be forgotten". 'They won't expect a thing'.

When they released Simons' documents, the police chief said they showed that Simons meant to conduct a school shooting and harm other individuals.

"We should thank God every day, whatever made him change his mind", Brink said. "Whatever changed his mind, he did change his mind".

Brink said investigators have not uncovered anything, aside from the notes on the cellphone, that would indicate Simons was planning an attack.

The boy arrived at school by bus around 7:44 a.m. last Tuesday and entered a bathroom. Authorities now believe he may have been hiding a 22-caliber rifle down the leg of his trousers. He was also carrying bottle rockets, batteries, and an aerosol can.

According to a news release a student leaving the bathroom noticed the 13-year-old had a weapon, the student leaving the bathroom alerted faculty of the situation.

Brink said detectives believe the boy expected to die that day.
