Coach on Hayward: 'He's not playing this year'

The Players' Tribune tweeted a almost 30-second video Friday of Hayward working out in the gym, complete with jump shots and crossovers.

Yahoo Sports' Chris Mannix reported that Hayward was "walking fine, but his ankle was still swollen and still purpleish" before the All-Star break.

It sounds like Celtics fans can put to bed their dreams of Hayward coming back this spring to give his team a lift throughout the playoffs.

On Friday, Hayward tweeted The Players' Tribune video with a caption, "Patience".

While that would make it hard to believe Hayward would be ready anytime soon, the video posted by the Player's Tribune keeps a tiny bit of that optimism alive.

"He's not playing this year", the coach said. "I don't know what else to say". "Yes. He did another AlterG (anti-gravity treadmill) workout this morning".

"Check back tomorrow", said Stevens, playing along. Despite his notable progress thus far, Hayward still has a long road ahead in his rehab and recovery, and there is zero incentive to rush the process. He's up to 60 percent of his weight on the AlterG.

A reporter playfully asked if we should ask Stevens for another update on Sunday. If you've ever run on the AlterG that feels like you're flying without your legs touching the ground.

"I think the videos are great too because it continues to show the progress".
