Rutgers' magical Big Ten Tournament run is over

Thanks to the Boilermakers' play over the course of the regular season, the team earned a No. 3-seed for the tournament and will play on Friday for the first time in the tournament.

The law firm of Edwards & Edwards made sure Purdue didn't become the latest victim of Rutgers' improbable Big Ten Tournament ride Friday night.

"Coach Painter's communicated to us that hey, look, our goals are still there", senior center Isaac Haas said.

All-Big Ten junior forward Jordan Murphy looked around the locker room and felt sorry for not being able to accomplish more this year for the seniors, especially point guard and captain Nate Mason. Baker had no issue making his own shots Friday night - rivaling Sanders in that respect - extending himself out to the perimeter, where he went 4-of-9 from beyond the arc. "You always want to match his energy".

When Indiana led by 16 with just over eight minutes to play in the first half, everything was satisfactory.

Freshman Channise Lewis, sophomore Stephanie Jones and junior Brianna Fraser added 10 points each and No. 17 Maryland held IN scoreless over the final minute of play to advance to the Big Ten Semifinals.

Purdue coach Matt Painter has reminded his team about the importance of a championship run in New York City. Indiana (IN) was only down by 1 heading into halftime, 29-28.

Sophomore Dominique Oden posted her third straight 20-point game, finishing with 25 points, notching eight in the first quarter and 12 in the fourth quarter, including both game-tying free throws down the stretch. He missed the front end, and Purdue's Carsen Edwards rebounded and was fouled.

The No. 7 seed IN (17-14) came as close as 54-51 on a pair of Amanda Cahill free throws with 4:34 remaining but the Terps scored the next six points until IN scored again with a minute left and the Hoosiers didn't get closer than six. The point guard made four 3-pointers on the night en route to a 26-point performance, and he was joined by Vincent Edwards and Mathias in making more than three 3-pointers for the Boilermakers. Vince hit 10-of-14 shots and 4-of-7 from 3-point range.

"And Corey was terrific again, " Pikiell said.

The Hoosier's best players, Buss and Amanda Cahill, each played 60 minutes against Michigan State. "They're efficient. They have assists". They were more forceful in a lot of areas. They have size. They have versatility. "We never really got over that hump where we strung stops together and buckets with those".

ROBERT JOHNSON: You know, he was really good at getting to his right hand, and that's something we talked about.

Rutgers was positioned well for a possible upset when trailing by three with Sanders going to the free throw line with 30 seconds left.

The team is one round better than it was past year, and Pikiell sees that promise building.

"I think it just comes down to us not getting enough stops, " said IU junior forward Juwan Morgan.

"For our guys, I'm really disappointed", Miller said.

"As you reflect back at it, did we not have enough depth, did we not do a good enough job?" They liked the big stage and I liked that they liked that.
