Sergio Aguero's next goal will his 200th for Manchester City, but it is the Argentine's willingness to do much more than just score that has won the confidence of his manager Pep Guardiola.

"It's not good for us comparing with that team because that team dominate the last decade with different managers and different players". We want to be ready if we have to play them at any stage.

"If we keep going like this we have a very good chance", said Aguero.

"Not just scoring goals, but he doesn't lose one ball".

City are now regarded as Champions League favourites in many quarters having enjoyed an outstanding season to date.

City may have a commanding lead over Basel but Guardiola will not accept any drop in intensity during the return clash at the Etihad Stadium.

Gundogan's first season in Manchester was clouded by a knee injury that kept him out for nearly the entire campaign last year, so much so that his game time this year has made him seem like a brand new signing.

Barcelona are the only side to have ever overturned a four-goal deficit in a two-legged Champions League tie, defeating Paris Saint-Germain 6-1 to win 6-5 on aggregate a year ago.

Aguero was unable to add to his 21 goals in the league this season, however he was happy with his team's victory over the reigning Premier League Champions as he took his son and some friends out for a meal on Sunday, March 4.

He responded: "I'm a different player right now with all the experiences I have had. We will decide on the line-up tomorrow".

Guardiola also made a point of reminding his players to stay disciplined on Wednesday night.

It was the first time in eight home games Aguero had failed to find the net, but that mattered little to Guardiola, who is now seeing the all-round game from Aguero he demands of his strikers. "The action from Zinchenko in the first half, the tackle on Moses, it's "orange" - could be yellow, could be red".

"Sometimes it's not about how you play". It is different competitions.

"Trying to play to play good, to win the game, but it's not the main thing".
