The series is being played in celebration of Sri Lanka's 70th year of independence and co-incidentally Sri Lanka Cricket's 70th year as well. All matches will be played in Colombo.

Communal tension in Sri Lanka has been on the upswing in recent years, with Buddhist monks and hard-line Sinhala groups accusing Muslims of expansionism, forceful conversions and of trying to undermine the majority community.

The Sri Lankan government on Tuesday has chose to impose a state of emergency for 10 days to control law and order in the country, following the violence against the minority community in Kandy district over the last two days.

India will take on Sri Lanka in the first match of the Nidahas Trophy. The situation in picture is in Kandy and not Colombo. The Rohit Sharma led fresh Indian team will be facing a daunting challenge in the T20 tri-series which will be contested between Sri Lanka, India and Bangladesh.

"We are excited to partner with JioTV to bring in the action packed T20 series to Indian cricket fans, and look forward to connecting with the cricket consumers in the sub-continent", Jerome Jayaratne, Chief Operating Officer, Sri Lanka Cricket said in the statement.

The decision of BCCI to rest some of the senior players like regular captain Virat Kohli and the veteran Mahendra Singh Dhoni, pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav and Hardik Pandya, gave the chance to some promising young players to make their mark. Rishab Pant was also picked for the important series and is likely to don the gloves for India. The Nidahas Trophy 2018 matches will be night matches where each team will play each other twice.
